SkyGRID a Summary

Introduction;

OK, so like me you prefer the short version and want to understand what innovation PilotAware SkyGRID brings to Electronic Conspicuity and how it will benefit you and aviation safety. Good idea!

What is PilotAware SkyGRID and what does it do?;

PilotAware SkyGRID improves the already great coverage that the ATOM GRID Network gives in integrating the locations of Flarm and Mode-S transmitting traffic into what you see directly. Particularly at low levels.

The new 20220101 software enables your existing PilotAware Rosetta to perform a similar function to an ‘ATOM station in the Sky.’ This allows it to relay information to aircraft that cannot directly see an ATOM station. Don’t worry how we do this. Unless you are a network architect with an advanced qualification in embedded software and understand cryptology it will probably go over your head. No disrespect intended, but that’s why you opted for the short version anyway.

Put as simply as possible, it works like this .

Step 1 Normal Operation.

Step 2 The lower aircraft flies out of base station range and becomes stranded.

Step 3 The higher flying aircraft detects this and relays the stranded aircrafts position to the ATOM station

Step 4 The higher flying aircraft relays all data relevant to the stranded aircraft so it is effectively now back in range.

Step 5 The process continues until the stranded aircraft becomes in range of an ATOM base Station  

The Advantages;

  1. Amazingly, you will see more aircraft than you did before. Much more than any other device.
  1. The range of target aircraft will be increased. (You can use filters if you choose).
  1. You will be able to see targets that are in out of the way places particularly at low levels.
  1. You will forward more aircraft and drone locations to our servers for the protection of others.
  1. PilotAware SkyGRID provides even further overall system redundancy for greater safety.
  1. PilotAware SkyGRID reduces third party airframe obscuration for greater safety.
  1. PilotAware SkyGRID is an enabler for our amazing next innovation available later in 2022.

Install the latest software to benefit from and help everyone else using PilotAware SkyGRID. No re-configuration or new hardware is required. It’s operation is autonomous.

To get the most out of PilotAware SkyGRID and improve the performance of your PilotAware equipment,  permanently install your Rosetta or Classic unit using an internal or external antenna kit. It makes a real difference!
